Video Review featuring the brand new Civic SI Coupe 2012

by Yves Maltais 28 July 2011

This is the 9th generation of Honda Civic- the High performance SI model. Notably new about this model is the powerful 2.4 liters engine, very similar to the engine found in the Acura TSX.  You find a lot more torque, additional horsepower, and a compelling driving experience.  Civic SI aficionados like to get their facts, so let’s look at the specs in detail.

This is a 2.4 liter engine with 201 horsepower.  While just 4 horsepower more than the previous model, peak horsepower is achieved at 7000rpm, 800 rpm lower then the previous model.  The real improvement comes in the torque.  How much improvement?  A 22% increase with an impressive 170 lb-ft..  The powerband begins at 4,300 rpm, compared to the 6,900 rpm that it used to be.  This brings the newfound performance to the daily driving experience.

Style wise, the Coupe is a refined evolution of the previous model.  Longer and sleeker and more sophisticated, the new SI only hints at its monster powertrain inside.  It is about 4/10th of an inch lower to the ground, for improved handling.  Standard 17 inch wheels, and a profile that makes it easy to customize with a manufacturer lift kit, to give it the more aggressive look the SI is known for.

We love the whole package.  It is a lot of fun to drive and is really a dynamic driver’s car. The steering is tight, and the brakes responsive. If you love driving a car that just reacts to your input and does what you tell it to do, few vehicles will offer you a more rewarding ride than the Civic SI.
